Youth Fest 2012

Barnstaple Youth Council is organising a Youth Fest on Saturday 21^st April 2012.

The day will consist of stalls from Youth Organisations, fair rides and live music throughout the day.

Youth Council Community day

Barnstaple Youth Council held a Community Day on Saturday 21st May 2011 from 11am – 4pm on Castle Green, Barnstaple. The aim of the day was to promote organisations working with young people and provide a fun day for young people and families.

The event was a great success those who attended enjoyed performances from young local bands and the Barnstaple Town Majorettes. There was also an inflatable assault course which proved to be a big hit!

The Barnstaple Youth Council would like to thank those organisations who supported the day and looks forward to arranging another community day in 2012.

Youth Council mural project

Barnstaple Youth Council has created a mural which will be used to promote the Youth Council at any events it holds or attends. The mural was designed to represent young people, and the issues the Youth Council is involved in. The Youth Council is planning to take the mural on many outings in the coming year.

The Barnstaple Youth Council obtained funding from the Davie Trust to produce an Educational DVD raising awareness about drugs and drug abuse.

They created characters in the form of puppets from latex with the help of Seize the Moment, who also helped to produce the script and film alongside the Youth Council. It is anticipated that the DVD will be shown to young people, hopefully through schools and youth groups, to educate people about the dangers of drugs.

At the Youth Council’s Annual meeting Youth Councillor Miss L Adams was elected as Chairperson for the year 2011/2012 and Youth Councillor Miss B Adams was elected Vice-Chairperson for the year 2011/2012.

Barnstaple Youth Council aims to be the voice of young people, THIS IS YOUR CHANCE TO BE HEARD! This is an exciting opportunity for you to VOICE YOUR OPINIONS and be involved with PROJECTS THAT MATTER TO YOU, to help CHANGE and SHAPE the town of BARNSTAPLE.

The Youth Council was re-launched in June 2007. Since then it has held an “Ideas Into Action Day”, a “Quiz and Karaoke Night” and a “Music Festival”. The Youth Council has created and taken part in many projects including an “Intergenerational Spray Art Project”, a “Mural Project” as part of the Restoration of the Albert Clock Project and has recently produced a “Drugs Awareness DVD”. The Youth Council has also been involved in the UK Youth Parliament’s “Get on Board Campaign” to reduce bus fares for 16-18 year olds in Devon.
