Friday 16th July 2010 Visit to Barnstable USA
Thursday 8th July 2010. The Mayor held his 1st fund raising event of his Mayoralty. The Charity Quiz Night which was held at the Gurkha Restaurant in Market Street, Barnstaple was a resounding success with 15 teams of 4 people taking part in the Quiz. The evening saw team members enjoying a 7 course meal and Quiz, with the questions set by the Quizmaster Mr George Hammett. A total of £710.20 was raised for the Mayor’s chosen charities, Pathfield School and the Royal British Legion Barnstaple Branch, and will be presented in May 2011. The winning team on the night were the “Bulworthy Black Belts”
Monday 28th June 2010. The Mayor of Barnstaple, Councillor Ian Roome, and the Town Clerk, Anne Jenkins, were guests of the RAF "A" Flight, 22 Squadron, Search and Rescue, based at RMB Chivenor. The Mayor was invited to fly in one of the Sea King helicopters and was on board while the flight attended an emergency rescue at Bude.

Saturday 12th June 2010. The Mayor and Mayoress attended the Devon Cadet Parade in Exeter to celebrate 150 years of the Cadet Forces.
Air Chief Marshal Sir Peter Squire took the salute. Sir Peter was Chief of the Air Staff from 2000 to 2003. Commissioned into the RAF in 1966, he held a series of flying and staff posts of increasing seniority, both in the UK and Europe. He is a Falklands veteran and was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross during that campaign in 1982. Sir Peter was a Commissioner of the Commonwealth War Graves Commission between 2003 and 2008 and their Vice-President from 2005, and is currently Chair of Governors of Kings Bruton School.
“A good time was had by all and the cadets looked very proud. I will say the North Devon Cadets was extremely good and the North Devon Army Cadet Band were fantastic.”

Tuesday 8th June 2010. The Mayor shows visiting teachers from Norway, Turkey and German Schools around the Guildhall. The teachers were guests of Pilton Bluecoat School on an exchange visit.

Sunday 23rd May 2010. The Mayor is taken for a spin at Petroc's inaugural Formula for Success Motorsports Day, which took place at Chivenor, to raise funds for Help for Heroes and the Formula for Success project.

Saturday 22nd May 2010. Cllr Ian Roome undertook his first engagement as Mayor when, accompanied by Mayoress Linda Lewis, he visited the Pilton, Penrose, Alice Horwood and Salem & Fremington Almshouses and Pilton House, and presented Barnstaple Shillings to the residents.

Monday 17th May 2010. The new Mayor of Barnstaple, Councillor Ian Roome, takes the Oath of Allegiance at the Mayor Making Ceremony in the Guildhall Barnstaple.
