The Royal British Legion (Barnstaple Branch) is the custodian of Remembrance activities in the town, but the Town Council organises and delivers two annual services on its behalf:
On Remembrance Sunday each year the Act of Remembrance is honoured with a civic procession along Taw Vale to the War Memorial in Rock Park (approx. 10.45am), and a service at the War Memorial attended by civic dignitaries, representatives of the armed forces, other groups with links to the military, and the public. A further procession follows, from Rock Park to the Parish Church, where a Remembrance Sunday service is held.
Children’s Remembrance Service.
On the Friday before Remembrance Sunday each year, local schools are invited to send a group or class of students to a service at the War Memorial in Rock Park (approx. 10.40am) with readings, music and an Act of remembrance led by the Royal British Legion. The event is open to all and various civic dignitaries will attend, but it is focused on the children themselves.
